What a whirlwind adventure. Is it over already? God is so faithful to have seen us through. Experiences. Emotions. Memories. And people. Oh, the people. Kindred spirits and friends for life. What a beautiful place. What an epic adventure. Great Blue Sky, vast mountain ranges, horseback, eagles, cold, sun, snow. Fatherless, broken, hungry, sick, homeless, prostitutes, orphans, widows, Students, fathers, children, mothers, sons, daughters, sisters, brothers. Loving people, serving Jesus. All for the sake of a King. All because He said, "Go." A team of hearts and minds so willing. To know Him and make Him known. In awe and breathless. Hearts filled to overflowing. A tearful pause to let His rest wash over. One chapter closes. As bright, and hopeful eyes look forward. A great leader once expressed that a man's finest hour is that moment when he has worked his heart out in a good cause and lies exhausted on the field of battle - victorious.
As I sit here on the beach at 4am and reminisce about our YWAM DTS outreach to Mongolia, I can't help but feel these intertwining emotions of incredible gratefulness and instant nostalgia regarding our Mongolian adventure that ended just hours ago. From where I sit, God has no need to prove Himself faithful. His watchful eye, His working hand, and His loving heart were so evident amongst our team of 17 as we took on the challenges of serving God in Asia. He blessed us with diverse, fun relationships and amazing experiences, all the while strengthening us towards one heart and purpose: to know Him and make Him known. However, it's these very relationships, these dear people and sweet experiences, and this amazing, whirlwind adventure that makes my heart feel so heavy. It's hard to stand by and watch as the final words are written as such an amazing chapter comes to a close. Andy from "The Office" said it best: "I wish there was a way to know you're in the good old days before you've actually left them." And yet, here is where my gratitude comes full circle, because even while the most bittersweet of endings is drawing ever near, you better believe that for a few more moments these good old days are still here. In the short time I have left here, I for one plan to leave it all on the field so when the final word is written I can walk away with my King - victorious.
